Welcome to Werunthings.com

The Ekenwan campus of the University of Benin has always been unique and reputable for one major thing: producing eccentric, extremely gifted fine artists and theatre arts practitioners. From Victor Uwaifo, El Dragg Okwoju, Richard Mofe Damijo, Yetonyon Taiwo, Daniel Adaka to Laolu Obende, their portfolios and body of work speak volumes. Strolling down from the main gate of the campus, several astounding sculptures welcome you or confront and harass you; depending on your interpretation. A straight walk from the gate to the T-junction that divides the hostels from the lecture areas, an outstanding advertising agency size billboard welcomes you. No, not the average billboard with a picture of a clueless smiling girl advertising a product, but a billboard portraying the eminence and glory of the Benin Kingdom. While not a commissioned work but an undergraduate final year project, the work is simply in a class of its own; the final year project of Ehigie Aigiomawu.

Ehigie \'Elevated Mindz\' Aigiomawu

Ehigie means ‘God sent’ and I can personally attest to the full manifestation of that name. While opening a Fanta show for Tony Tetuila back at the University of Benin, the crowd got so wowed that they rushed on stage to grab a hold of the talented dancer; they crashed the stage, the show had to be closed. Same thing happened at Ambrose Ali University and some scenarios are better imagined. WRT proudly introduces you to the world of this London based, Nigerian born (buttered, battered and re-stitched into shape) prolific dancer and artist. Enjoy.

Naeto C Album Launch Party.

WRT was at Naeto C’s album launch on saturday night. The event held at the extremely impressive Club Volar (Jade Palace). Now, let me say this, and clearly too…if you missed this event, you missed out big time! The place was packed with Nigeria’s grooviest elites, organisation was beautiful, everything was well orchestrated and there was lots to drink and nibble on.

If D’banj and the Mo’hits crew introduced ‘mass appeal’  into the Nigerian entertainment industry, then Naeto C and the Storm family are putting the ’swagger’, the ’style’and the ’stease’ right on top of the whole pile. Naeto C thrilled us with some of the hits from his album (title: U know my P) with Africa’s numero uno: DJ Jimmy Jatt working his magic on the wheels of steel;the crowd religiously sang/rapped along with him and it was a beautiful scene to behold.

The crowning point of the night was after thanking everybody, Naeto told the Dj (Jimmy Jatt) to pause the music and declared drinks on the house (Red Bulls and bottles of Moet); the crowd went buckwild (Nigerians love awoof so much). I’m waiting for another party that will beat this…perhaps D’banj’ Album Launch? Fingers crossed*

Uru Album launch.

Uru launched her debut album at the NIIA (Nigerian Institute of International Affairs) last sunday. The launch was anchored by the multilingual and legendary host, Bisi Olatilo. Uru, an American based actor, writer, poet and filmmaker is Ikechukwu’s (I-Killz) big sister. She thrilled us to some of the strong tracks from the album and was joined on stage by Zidon Paporella on one of the pieces. I particularly love Iwe, which is a soulful rendition and a clever, deep blend of Ibo and english and Where I stand, which is a rock blend; the crowd asked for more and she stunningly shut us down with a beautiful acapella. The event was arranged by Rouge Entertainment International, which is being headed by Joice Ize-Iyamu (Tuface’ former manager) and Redbull (which has been prominent in the entertainment events scene).

Naeto C, in my opinion, is what a rapper ought 2 b. His flows and the way he drawls his rhymes…now that’s cool.
But, as per the venue of the event itself…don’t people in 9ja watch events like Oscar awards? Can’t entrepreneurs come up with venues with nice stages and stuff? It seems nobody is thinking along those lines. A venue makes the event…as the saying goes. We should work on that.
    Nice job, WRT

    seconded…
stage management should be revisited in most shows held in our dearly beloved 9ja with special emphasis on lighting…
    WRT-u rock!
